The Pan American Association of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (Pan American Association of ORL-HNS) was founded in Chicago in 1946 by Chevalier L. Jackson, M.D., and an international group of Western Hemisphere otolaryngological societies who saw the need for scientific and social exchange among the specialists of the three Americas. This organization has been extremely successful and has fulfilled the goals and aspirations of the founding fathers. Since its inception, a Congress of the Association (Pan American Congress) has been held every two years, with only one exception.
